Student Absence Policy
effective 10/14/11
- If the student is unable to attend
scheduled lesson for any reason, the teacher must be
notified by phone 24 hours in advance.
- Any student not notifying the
instructor 24 hours in advance of missing a lesson is
subject to paying full price for the lesson time (which
will automatically deducted from the monthly tuition
payment).
- Since the payment requirements for
North Bay Trumpet Studio clearly state that tuition must
be paid on a monthly basis in advance, students are
expected to pay full tuition regardless of absences or
schedule conflicts.
- Students not paying tuition in full
may be dropped from the schedule and replaced with a
student from a waiting list.
- North Bay Trumpet Studio does not hold
available lessons times for students who do not pay
tuition in timely or consistent fashion.
- Schedule conflicts are handled as
described below.
- If a student can not make a lesson for
a legitimate reason (school performance, illness, car
wreck, death in the family, etc.), the student has the
option, after notifying the instructor as described
above, of requesting to reschedule the lesson. (see
below)
- Non-acceptable reasons for absence
inclued: vacation plans, social events, dental
appointemnts, etc. (anything "elective").
- Rescheduling of a lesson may be
permitted for students who are consistent with attendance
and payment if:
(1) time with the instructor is available
(2) rescheduling does not involve moving another
student's regularly scheduled time
(3) rescheduling does not exceed one lesson per month
(4) rescheduling does not occur more than 2 consecutive
months
(5) rescheduling occurs within 7 days of the students
regularly scheduled lesson time.
- The teacher reserves the right to
refuse to move or reschedule a weekly lesson time when it
does not adhere to the above any of the 5 conditions
listed above.
- Showing up more than 15 minutes late
to a lesson may constitute a non-refundable (absence)
cancellation.
- Showing up unprepared or without
assigned materials is unacceptable and may constitute a
non-refundable (absence) cancellation.
- A student may be dismissed from a
lesson for being poorly or completely un-prepared (which
will be viewed as an absence)..
- A student may be dismissed from a
lesson for not bringing assigned books and materials
(which will be viewed as an absence)..
- Tuition is non-refundable if a student
is dismissed for a lack of preparation or failure to
bring assigned materials.
- Students should plan to discuss any
scheduling issues well in advance.
- One month in advance, when tuition is
paid, is the proper time for such discussion.
- Any schedule concerns should be dealt
with by calling the teacher's home office phone line or
cell phone between 9 am and 9 pm. (see below)
- All last minute emergency calls must
be directed to the instructor's cell phone. (see below).
- Please try to respect lesson hours by
not calling the cell phone unless absolutely necessary on
weekdays between 3 and 8 pm.
- Email is NOT 100% reliable or prompt.
- Do NOT assume the instructor will
receive a last minute email concerning schedule changes.
Parents and students must read and
consent to these guidelines as a condition of study at North Bay
Trumpet Studio.
- If a student were enrolled in a
college and were absent due to illness, he would not
expect the dean of the college to refund tuition for that
class meeting.
- If a student were enrolled in a
college, it is unlikely he would schedule a dental
appointment (for example) during class time.
- If a student were enrolled in college,
it is unlikely he would show up to class without a
textbook, completed homework, or a note pad and pencil
(horn and music).
- If a student were enrolled in college,
it is unlikely he would show up to class late and expect
to be admitted to the room. Most high-school and college
classrooms are locked when class begins.
- If a student were enrolled in college,
it is unlikely he would expect to remain enrolled or
attend class without paying tuition in advance for the
semester.
- If a student were enrolled in college,
make-up work would be given at the discretion of the
instructor (not at the convience of the student).
